Falcons-Titans Game Notes

 

ATLANTA -- Official game notes from the Falcons-Titans preseason contest. 

  • With a 17-3 final, the Falcons earned their first victory of the preseason and first win under Head Coach Mike Smith.
  • Falcons quarterbacks Matt Ryan and Chris Redman combined to completed 24 of 32 passes (75.0 pct.) for 185 yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions and a 99.1 passer rating.
  • On Ryan’s first offensive series, the rookie quarterback completed four of six passes for 31 yards including two consecutive strikes to wide receiver Michael Jenkins on his first two passes of the game. Ryan finished the contest having completed 15 of 21 passes (71.4 pct.) for 102 yards, one touchdown and a 97.7 passer rating.
  • On Atlanta’s first offensive possession of the second half, the Falcons drove 71 yards for a touchdown with the help of RB Jerious Norwood’s 39-yard rush. The scoring drive was capped by Ryan’s second touchdown pass of the preseason to rookie wide receiver Harry Douglas (1 yard).
  • Running back Thomas Brown sealed the Falcons victory with a nine-yard touchdown run to give Atlanta a 14-point advantage. The touchdown was the first for Brown this preseason as the rookie finished the game with 29 rushing yards.
  • Wide receiver/punt returner Adam Jennings posted two punt returns in the second quarter of 22 and 38 yards. His second return of 38 yards is his longest career punt return in both the preseason and regular season.
  • Wide receiver Brian Finneran led the Falcons in receiving with five receptions for 53 yards.
  • Running back Jason Snelling posted his longest rush of the preseason with a 19-yard scamper in the third quarter. Snelling finished the game with 46 rushing yards.
  • Defensive end John Abraham logged his first sack of the preseason when he dropped Titans quarterback Vince Young for an eight-yard loss in the first quarter. Last season Abraham led the Falcons with 10 sacks.
  • Rookie cornerback Chevis Jackson tallied his first interception of the preseason when he picked off Titans QB Vince Young and returned the ball 28 yards into Tennessee territory with no time remaining in the first quarter. Jackson also contributed with one tackle.
  • Rookie linebacker Curtis Lofton registered six tackles to lead the Falcons defense. It was the second game this preseason (Jacksonville) where Lofton led the team in stops.
  • The Falcons defense held Tennessee to three points on the night while allowing only 157 passing yards. Atlanta’s defense has not allowed an offensive touchdown in the last nine quarters of the preseason (dating back to the third quarter of the Jacksonville game).
  • Ryan earned his first preseason start under center while CB Chris Houston saw his first preseason game action, starting at right cornerback.
